Note: This program is not available in English. It is aimed at children who speak Fench or are learning French as a second langage.

Le sentier de l’alphabet was created and validated by a team of researchers at the Université du Québec à Montréal as part of funded research projects conducted in schools. This program follows the three-tiered intervention model (RtI). As such, it is a tool that demonstrates all the characteristics of a Level 2 intervention aimed at supporting at-risk students in kindergarten for 5-year-olds in their early reading and writing learning.

The recreational activities were designed to be implemented by a remedial teacher four times a week in subgroups of 4 to 5 students. For maximum effect, Le sentier de l’alphabet should follow a Level 1 intervention, which is offered by the teacher to the whole class, following the methods and characteristics of that level of intervention.

The main goal of this program is to understand the alphabetic principle (letter name and sound learning) and develop phonemic awareness (sounds in spoken words).

Le sentier de l’alphabet training is for preschool remedial teachers who have already completed the first day of La forêt de l’alphabet training. We believe that the first day should be a joint training day between classroom teachers and remedial teachers allowing everyone to work and exchange on a common basis. The goal of this training is to equip professionals working with kindergarteners in ways that help them implement the program.

This 6-hour training is offered on weekdays, under the condition of completing the first day of La forêt de l’alphabet (totalling12-hour of training)

The material is not included in the cost of training.

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Understand the fundamental theories supporting the Le Sentier de l’alphabet program and its implementation methods.
  • Understand the key elements for implementing a metaphonological skills program.
  • Equip remedial teachers with in-depth prevention strategies for early reading difficulties.
