La forêt de l’alphabet is a French universal prevention program led by the teacher. It was designed to foster early learning literacy learning. The program is intended for 5-year-olds kindergarten children who speak French or are learning French as a second language. Presented in the form of fun activities, it complements the usual kindergarten activities.
 
This program uses the principles of explicit teaching. It includes materials to support the learning of letter names and sounds (alphabetic principle), as well as the development of phonemic awareness.
 
The La forêt de l’alphabet program, created in the early 2000s and validated in several studies carried out by UQAM researchers, can be used, for example, in combination with Fluppy, for social skills, and with Le sentier de l’alphabet, for literacy.
 
For each of the 26 letters of the alphabet, four blocks of activities are proposed. Each activity can be led by the teacher, in large groups or in sub-groups. Abi the squirrel, a friendly and motivating mascot, accompanies the children.

La forêt de l’alphabet training is aimed at teachers and educational consultants in 5-year-olds kindergarten. Managers are also invited to join the training, as experience has shown that their presence contributes to successful implementation. This training enables teachers to familiarize themselves with pedagogical practices based on robust scientific evidence in the field of early literacy learning. It also enables them to explore the activities and materials included in La forêt de l’alphabet.

This 12-hour training course is offered over two non-consecutive days (or 4 blocks of 3 hours) to allow participants to apply the educational practices and activities. You should allow 3 to 4 weeks between the two days of training (or blocks 2 and 3).
 
This training is offered any day of the week, according to your availability.
 
The cost of the material is not included in the cost of training.
 
At the end of this training, participants will be able to:
  • Understand the basic theories supporting the La forêt de l’alphabet program.
  • Understand the material, the activities and their application method.
  • Integrate La forêt de l’alphabet in their daily practice.
